The product perspective

Find the connection.
Understand the difference.

Recognizing the same recording and comparing two different performances call for different tools. MotifSpan starts with that distinction.

01 /

Recording fingerprints

Our starting point: distinctive acoustic signatures that connect a recording or excerpt to a reference in a known collection.

02 /

Passages in perspective

A focus on where recordings connect, with aligned passages and timing at the center of a useful comparison.

03 /

Room for the composition

A broader product direction encompassing melody, rhythm, and lyrics, beyond the identity of a particular recording.

Thoughtful by design

A connection is
the beginning.

A shared recording, a familiar phrase, and a similar composition each tell a different story. MotifSpan is built around the questions catalog owners and creators need to investigate.

Similarity does not establish ownership, permission, or a generator’s training history. The context around a match matters.

01

Establish a reference

Begin with an original recording or a defined reference collection. A search is only as broad as the catalog behind it.

02

Look for shared sound

Use recording identity as a starting point, and distinguish direct audio matches from broader musical resemblance.

03

Follow the relevant passage

Put the connection in context: the location, duration, and nature of a shared passage matter more than a score alone.

A little more clarity

Good questions.
Clear answers.

Is MotifSpan publicly available?

MotifSpan is currently in closed alpha. Access is by invitation, with an initial focus on recording fingerprints and reference-based comparison.

Does it search every song on the internet?

No. Fingerprint matching requires a defined reference collection. Coverage depends on which recordings are included; it is not a universal search of all music.

Are fingerprinting and melody matching the same?

No. Fingerprinting aims to recognize an existing recording or excerpt. Comparing a newly performed melody, different instrumentation, or rewritten lyrics requires additional methods. These form MotifSpan’s broader product direction.

Does a match prove copying or infringement?

A match identifies an audio or musical connection for further consideration. It does not by itself establish ownership, permission, or a legal conclusion.

Can I upload my catalog here?

Catalog onboarding and track submissions are arranged separately for invited alpha participants. This public website accepts access requests, not music files.
